Omega-3 Fish Oil: Why is it important?

Why should I supplement with Omega-3 fish oil? The American Heart Association recommends that we consume fish at least 2-3 times a week to maintain healthy levels of Omega-3 oils in our body. These oils contain both DHA and EPA which are essential nutrients for preventing and managing heart disease. Through research we have seen promising information showing that Omega-3’s help with lowering blood pressure, reducing triglycerides, slowing the development of plaque in arteries, maintaining normal heart rhythm, and decreasing the chance of stroke. Outside of heart function, these oils are also used for normal brain function, eye tissue health, reducing chronic inflammation, healthy skin, pregnancy and newborn health, liver health and mental clarity. With multiple very important functions in the body it is essential that we make sure that we are fueling the body and giving it the building blocks it needs to work correctly. We should be consuming anywhere from 200mg to 2000mg a day of Omega-3 oil to keep our supplies up.
